Land underpins all the key aspects of the New Urban Agenda since almost every facet in society in one way or another is linked to the land issue. It permeates many processes or decisions, be they on the economy, demography, environment, infrastructure, hazard areas, housing, etc. For women, particularly those living in poverty, access, ownership and control over land will have transformative effects on their well-being, economic and social status, resilience to disaster and climate threats, and for the development of the community and society at large. Securing land tenure and property rights for all is therefore key in providing the required housing, basic services and needed infrastructure to resolve inequalities and hence achieve sustainable urbanization.
