Putrajaya: A Sustainable Administrative City of Malaysia
The City of Putrajaya has come a long way since its conceptualisation in 1995. Since its ground breaking ceremony, Putrajaya has grown and matured into a vibrant, well-planned modern city equipped with world-class facilities. It houses close to 2.74 million square metres of government office spaces, generating employment and population nearly 100,000 people. In fact, almost all the ministries and government departments previously located in Kuala Lumpur have now moved to Putrajaya. A thoroughly modern and liveable city, it is developed based on systematic planning, innovative urban design and detailed care for the environment, it’s beautifully landscaped roads and parks, inter-mingle with modern buildings clearly reflects the duality of its development theme: `Garden City, Intelligent City’.

Herb Cyberjaya’s emergence as a global tech city and designed to create a vibrant ecosystem for entrepreneurs and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to flourish and drive the city’s economic growth. The number of renowned multinationals relocating their operations to Cyberjaya continues being on the uptrend. The District Energy in Cities Initiative and its partner Engie have facilitated this technical visit to Megajana District Cooling plant in Cyberjaya to showcase best practices on district cooling in the region. Megajana District Cooling system supplies round-the clock cooling to Cyberjaya’s township’s data centres, malls and office towers. Since 2012 the plant has avoided 4,100 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions and has .helped the town to reap the equivalent of 8.2 gigawatt hours in electricity savings.
