Reimagining the Future of Transportation: Sustainable Mobility.

Summary

The growing importance of cities within the global context and the priority of government in advancing LPT policy --- '19th century was the century of empires, 20th century was the century of nation states, and the 21st century is the century of cities'.

•Malaysia's LPT journey includes the humble beginnings of KTM rural rail stations and urban mini buses, the Government's 11th Malaysia Plan, GTP and ETP.

•National Land Public Transport Master Plan (NLPTMP) targets 40% mode share in urban areas, and improve PT connectivity in rural areas

•Rail - As backbone for LPT; new undergoing projects include MRT 2, LRT 3, RTS, HSR and ECRL.

•Buses – SBST at State Capitals and moving towards electric buses.

•Taxis – Grab and Uber, recently approved as e-hailing services, attained growth rate of 500% and 600% respectively.

•Future mobility – envisaging multimodal hubs, flying taxis, fully integrated journey planner application, higher usage of active mobility such as cycling, and AVs.
