Summary

As the New Urban Agenda acknowledges, urbanization will be one of the 21st century’s most transformative trends. Cities are dynamic hubs of activity that are continuously evolving, and housing can serve as a platform that connects and improves urban quality of life. At Habitat III, Habitat for Humanity International committed to implement the New Urban Agenda by increasing access to decent shelter for over 200 million people by 2036. To achieve this ambitious goal, Habitat for Humanity International pledged to promote sustainable cities through a new Urban Approach; increase security of tenure through the Solid Ground global advocacy campaign; and catalyze market development through the Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter. Now, more than a year after announcing its commitments in Quito, Ecuador, Habitat for Humanity and its partner organizations will report on the progress they are making towards fulfilling their commitments. Through presentation, video, case studies, personal stories, and examples of innovative public, private, people partnerships, Habitat for Humanity International and its partners will examine and expand upon the barriers and successes of providing land and housing solutions for the poor. We will allow time for audience interaction, questions and answers, knowledge sharing, and feedback.
