Summary

This Expert Group Meeting brings together key experts, practitioners and leaders in the fields related to gender, women’s rights, land and development, for discussion on the design, purpose, desired impact and broad content required in implementing the Global Land Tool Network (GLTN) Phase III Gender strategy. It will focus on GLTN gender responsive land tools, capacity development and country level engagement in the context of new mandates and opportunities, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.

The Global Land Tool Network is an alliance of global, regional and national partners with the long-term goal of poverty reduction and sustainable development through the promotion of secure land and property rights for all. Since its inception, the Network has grown steadily and is composed of more than 75 GLTN partners. Securing tenure for all, particularly for women, the poor and vulnerable groups has been at the centre of the GLTN’s work thus far. Since 2006, when the GLTN’s gender strategy was adopted, partners developed land tools to promote equal tenure security for both women and men. They recognise that women are not a homogenous group with regard to land and that different groups of women have different interests and face different situations. These include the Gender Evaluation Criteria (GEC), Intersectional/Multiverse Rights, GLII SDG Indicators for Women’s Land Rights, Social Tenure Domain Model (STDM), Continuum of Land Rights and the Islamic land Mechanism for Women’s land rights.

Over 35 international experts representing various stakeholders will be discussing strategies to enhance the SDGs, the NUA and other global and regional mandates for in-country implementation of Phase 3 programme (2018-23).
